SUMMARY:Merry Christmas Montegrotto Terme
DESCRIPTION:Montegrotto Terme is preparing to experience an intense and engaging Christmas season, with a calendar of events that from December 6 will accompany citizens and tourists until Epiphany. The municipality has put together a varied program, capable of satisfying all tastes and ages, transforming the historic center into a stage of celebration and culture.\nThe beating heart of the festivities will be Santa’s Village, which will enliven Piazza Primo Maggio and Piazza Carmignoto for the entire Christmas season. From Dec. 6 to Jan. 6, every weekend from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the squares will be transformed into an enchanted place where among snowy little houses and a fairy-tale atmosphere it will be possible to meet artisans, buy handmade products, taste gastronomic specialties and choose the perfect gift. The market will also be open on the busiest days of the holidays, Dec. 20-24 and 26-29, and then reopen Jan. 3-6. \nOn the afternoons of Dec. 6, 7 and 8, then on Dec. 13 and 14, and finally from Dec. 20 to 24, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Santa Claus himself will welcome children to First of May Square along with his elves. Little ones will be able to deliver their letters to him and take a souvenir photo on his throne, which will still remain available even when Santa Claus is busy at the North Pole. \nThe official opening is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3:30 p.m. in Carmignoto Square, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony accompanied by the performance of the San Bortolo Contrada Drummers. In the afternoon, mascots Elsa, Bear, Olaf and the Gingerbread Man will entertain the children, there will be fairy tale readings at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. with Roberta reading “The Christmas Dinner” and “Julenisse and the Traveling Moon,” while at 5 p.m. The Dragonflies of the East will perform a Christmas bellydance show. \nOn Dec. 7 it will be the turn of “The Gift Factory” workshop, where children up to age 10 can create Christmas letters and decorations with free admission, while in the evening the musical XMAS Hazbin Hotel will bring live music, choreography and singing to the stage.\nDec. 8, Immaculate Conception Monday, will be a particularly busy day and is one of the key moments in the Christmas program. At 5 p.m. in Rome Square there will be a gospel concert by the Gospel Voices Family group, a collective of talented singers of African American descent accompanied by an explosive band, which will range from the ancient work songs and spirituals of classic gospel to Christmas carols to the hip hop contaminations of contemporary gospel. This will be followed by the long-awaitedChristmas tree lighting, a time of sharing and celebration during which delicious hot chocolate will be served. The evening will continue at 9 p.m. in the Oratory of the Black Madonna with”Jubilaeum,” a concert for choir and organ by the Steffani Lyric Ensemble dedicated to the Jubilee in memory of St. John Paul II, as part of the Veneto International Music Festival. \nThe weekend of Dec. 13 and 14 will offer performances for all: from giant bubbles, fire bubbles and Giada’s bubble shooter hat to cartoon music by the band Castalia, from the Christmas Cosplay Party featuring Louis Guglielmero, official Johnny Depp impersonator as Willy Wonka, with competition for the best costume and Furry special, to the “Whitevoices for a White Christmas” concert in the church of San Gregorio Barbarigo on the evening of the 14th.\nAlso on Saturday, 13, the merchants of Corso delle Terme will organize“Christmas in Corso Terme” with carriage rides pulled by Cosmos, an imposing French Percheron, accompanied by the Victorian-style bagpipes of “The Dickens’ Sons” group. Also on Saturday 13, the Alda Merini Civic Library will offer a special Christmas candle workshop for adults led by Micol on the occasion of St. Lucy’s Day, in two shifts at 4 and 5:30 p.m. Sunday morning Carmignoto Square will also host a vintage market from 9 a.m. \nBut the most anticipated event remains on Sunday, December 21, when at 5:30 p.m. the legendary Krampus will return to parade through the streets of Montegrotto Terme. After last year’s resounding success, which drew spectators from all over the province and beyond, the Devils of St. Nicholas from the Damnatus Nomine group will walk down Viale Stazione to Carmignoto Square with their handcrafted masks, torches symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and cowbells, providing a breathtaking spectacle rooted in South Tyrolean and German traditions.\nThe weekend will be rounded out on Saturday 20 by the return of the San Bortolo Drummers, David Angel’s magic show and the Amici del Tabarro’s dialect greetings with Pietro Lazzaro and Roberto Zaniolo, while in the evening the Santi Pietro and Eliseo Cathedral will host the Christmas concert with the San Pietro Instrumental Ensemble Orchestra, the “Amoroso Canto”, “Mortalisatis” and “San Pietro” choirs, and guest soprano Monica Voltan and baritone Alessandro Pacagnella, conducted by Maestro Enrico Mainardi.\nOn Dec. 22,“The Gift Factory” for children will return, while on Tuesday, Dec. 23, Carmignoto Square will come alive with Roberto Stoppa’s Christmas DJ Party, with an apericena with food truck and complimentary drinks and Christmas hats.\nOn the eve, after the mass in Roma Square, the city administration will offer good wishes, hot chocolate, mulled wine, Serprino DOC from the Euganean Hills and typical sweets, followed by the refined and amazing show“La Gran Dama,” featuring a singer suspended four meters high on a scenic skirt six meters in diameter.\nThe program will continue intense after Christmas.
