A monographic exhibition about Marc Chagall: a selection of more than 100 works, ca. 70 canvas and paper paintings and 2 extraordinary series of engravings and acquaforte produced in the first years of his separation from Russia, “Ma Vie” 20 panels highlighting his early and painful autobiography and Gogol’s “Dead Souls”, the deepest look on the Russian soul of great literature.
The works exposed at Palazzo Roverella are lent by the Artist’s heirs, with a huge and generous loan, by the Tretyakov Gallery of Moscow, by the State Russian Museum at St. Petersburg, by the Pompidou in Paris, by the Thyssen Bornemisza in Madrid and by the Kunstmuseum in Zurich e by important and historic private collections, with some of the greatest masterpieces, such as “the Walk”, ”The Jew in Rose”, “The Wedding”, “The Cock”, “Black glove” and more.
The theme on which the curator Claudia Zevi has chosen to measure herself is the influence that Russian popular culture has had on all of Chagall’s work, with major realistic impact when he lived in the first twenty years of the twentieth century, but
