Modigliani Picasso e le Voci della modernità dal museo LaM
An exceptional collection of art from one of the most important museums in Northern Europe and France is the focus of a major new exhibition at Palazzo Zabarella this fall.
As part of the dialogue initiated by the Bano Foundation in recent years with important museum institutions of international renown, it is now the turn of LaM, Lille Métropole Musée d’art moderne, d’art contemporain et d’art brut, which will offer us the opportunity to admire 65 works by 30 avant-garde artists in a major new exhibition. The protagonists of the historical avant-garde and the best-known artists are joined by others who open up new artistic scenarios closer to the contemporary. Prominent among the many masterpieces are five paintings by Pablo Picasso and six by Amedeo Modigliani.
Curated by Jeanne-Bathilde Lacourt, the exhibition brings together big names and masterpieces, and is divided into six thematic sections that offer an in-depth look at the Cubist avant-garde, with paintings by Picasso and Georges Braque before considering the “Tubism” of Fernard Léger, represented by no fewer than six works.
Amedeo Modigliani occupies a place of honor within the exhibition, with an exceptional group of works, including Moïse Kisling, Red-haired Boy, Seated Nude with Shirt and Motherhood. These paintings, made at different times in Modigliani’s short but intense career, reveal the rich variety and emotional depth of his extraordinary artistic expression.
Alongside these iconic works, singular and poetic creations by important 20th-century figures such as Joan Miró, Youla Chapoval, André Lanskoy, Alexander Calder, and Bernard Buffet offer visitors a broad overview of 20th- and 21st-century European art.
This striking exhibition also highlights self-taught artists known as naïfs, such as Gertrude O’Brady and Camille Bombois; as well as works made under the spiritualist influence of Auguste Lesage and Victor Simon. Also presented are Art Brut creations that reveal alternative paths of artistic expression imbued with poetry and deep spirituality.
The exhibition is a polyphonic narrative, a unique and valuable opportunity to meet and admire extraordinary iconic works by some of the great masters of the 20th century, alongside lesser-known but equally powerful voices of modernity.
