Valentine’s Day in Monselice – Jubilee of the Lovers
The Feast of St. Valentine in Monselice has very ancient origins and is linked to the presence of the remains of St. Valentine in the Oratory of St. George. This saint traditionally protects the health of children.
On feast days, people go up in spontaneous pilgrimage to the little church where the ritual blessing of children and lovers takes place and a golden key is handed out to commemorate the event.
This year there will be 3 days of celebration, as the Shrine of which St. George’s Church is a part, is a Jubilee Shrine. On Feb. 14, 15 and 16, from 2:30 p.m. to sunset, a priest will always be present to impart the blessing.
Mazzini Square will have a heart market and music.
Cultural events include the presentation of the new book on the Jubilee Shrine of the Seven Churches and the unveiling of the new stained glass windows at St. George’s Church.
