XXXVIII Giostra della Rocca di Monselice (Jousting of the fortress)

Spectacular medieval re-enactment linked to Emperor Frederick II’s passage through town in 1239. The event involves the 9 Contrade (quarters) of Monselice with hundreds of participants competing in various contests to win the coveted Palio.

Friday, September 8

• Opening Ceremony
  Opening of the XXXVIIIth edition of the Joust of the Rock in Mazzini Square at 8:30 p.m. in the presence of the 9 contrade, a cultural/musical event coordinated directed and performed by Maestro Andrea Ferrari with the participation of Prof. Giovanna Baldissin Molli, University of Padua scholar of applied arts and goldsmithing.

Saturday, September 9

• Relay and archery competitions
  Relay race 3:30 pm through the streets of the city of Monselice.
  Race of the bows 5:30 p.m. at the Auser Park

Sunday, Sept. 10

• Medieval market, chess tournament and race of the millstones
  Chess tournament of the 9 contrade at Villa Pisani, beginning at 09:00 a.m.
  Medieval market at Monselice Castle, the event “Live the Castle” opening 10:00 am and through the streets of the center
  Race of the millstones, strength and technique compared at Via Argine Destro at 4:30 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 11

• Living Chess in Costume – final
  Chess game in Costume between the two finalists at Mazzini Square 9 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 14

• Choreographic musical competition “tenzone dei tamburi”: Drum tenzone competition with departure from the town hall gardens 8:30 p.m. and arrival at Mazzini Square 9 p.m.

Sunday, September 17

• Historical procession, beginning at 9:30 a.m. through the streets of the town of Monselice
• Quintana race at the race course in Via Piave beginning at 3:30 p.m.
